The Graphic Arts Academy (Graph X) is a South & West Consortium (SWWC) Career & Technical Education (CTE) advanced course designed for junior and senior students exploring graphic arts as a potential career or college pathway. Students gain real-world experience in the Dexter Graphic Arts Computer Lab and Shop, with a strong focus on customer service, production and portfolio development. The course also emphasizes the school-to-work transition, with targeted instruction in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, time management, and work ethic—key employability skills for success in any future career or educational pursuit. Articulation is available with Ferris State University and Washtenaw Community College.

Graphic Design I introduces students to a variety of modern graphic communication processes and their real-world applications. Students will learn the fundamentals of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) through hands-on digital and print projects in the Dexter Graphic Arts Computer Lab. In addition, students will be trained in equipment safety and basic operational skills in the Dexter Graphic Arts Shop.

Graphic Design II builds on the foundational skills from Graphic Design I, with continued work in the Graphic Arts Computer Lab and Shop. Students will begin taking on real-world projects, using Adobe Creative Suite and professional-grade equipment. The course also explores careers in the graphic arts industry and introduces students to the Graphic Arts Academy, an advanced opportunity for those interested in further study or career pathways.
